Creation of Man

I, the LORD God, formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Then I planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there I put the man I formed. I made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. I took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And I commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” Then I said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Now I had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. I brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So I caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, I took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then I made a woman from the rib I had taken out of the man, and brought her to the man.The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” This is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

My perfect knowledge of you

I have searched you, and I have known you. I know your sitting down and your rising up. I understand your thoughts from afar. I scrutinize your path and your lying down, and I am intimately acquainted with all your ways. Even before there is a word on your tongue, behold, I know it all. I have hedged you behind and before, and laid My hand upon you. Such knowledge is too wonderful for you, you cannot attain it. Where can you go from My Spirit? Where can you flee from My presence? If you ascend into heaven, I am there. If you make your bed in hell, I am there. If you take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there My hand will lead you and My right hand shall hold you. If you say “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” even the night shall be light about you. Indeed, the darkness shall not hide you from Me, but the darkness shines as day. The darkness and the light are both alike in Me. I formed your inward parts, I covered you in your mother’s womb. Praise Me, for you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are My works, and that your soul knows very well. Your frame was not hidden from Me, when I made you in secret, and skillfully wrought you in the lowest parts of the earth. My eyes saw your substance, being unformed. And in My book all the days of your life were written, when yet there were none of them. How precious are My thoughts towards you! How great is the sum of them! If you should count them, they would outnumber the sand.
